Information Design and Navigation

This course examines the art of effectively creating interesting and compelling experiences for others. Students employ a user-centered approach, focusing on the concepts and skills needed for structuringinformation and designing interaction. Using assorted media examples students explore the concept of information design, Web navigation, and immersive environments. Topics include differences of information, multiple organization strategies, metaphors, cognitive models, and 2-D/3-D navigation structures. Students are expected to develop a semester-long project, as well as smaller, weekly projects. Personal reflection and critical analysis are important components of the course, as projects are discussed and critiqued throughout the semester.
