Renaissance Art in Italy
Y23.5406 / Credit
This course follows the development of Italian painting and sculpture from the time of Giotto to the end of Michelangelo's life. The art of Florence, Rome, and the duchies of Northern Italy are examined in the works of artists such as Ghiberti, Donatello, Mantegna, and Raphael. Their art is studied as a product of the patronage and politics of the times. Guild, civic, papal, and private commissions are studied for their influence.
