Media Genres II: Exploding Genres
Y23.6003 / Credit
Presents the story of creation as it evolves from ancient oral versions of the creation of humankind up through written texts, such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, which tells the fictional story of the first man created by science. However, emphasis will be on 20th-century variations on the creation of humans through technological means, such as cyborgs and artificial life. This course pays particular attention to the impact of recent technologies-hypertext, the World Wide Web, and virtual reality in computer games-on the evolution of this story as technology changes the very notions of biological creation.
