This advanced course examines the various theories of international trade and the creation and implementation of a world financial system to support such trade. Among the topics to be covered are Ricardian and modern trade theories, the balance of payments, stabilization through international fiscal policy, mechanisms for correcting imbalances, and the determination of exchange rate policy. The roles of the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations Commission on Trade and Development, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, and the North American Free Trade Agreement are assessed.
