NYU-SCPS Personnel Announcements for Spring 2007

Design, Digital Arts, and Film

Mary Domowicz, director, Design, Digital Arts, and Film (replaced Nicole Tecco). Prior to joining SCPS as director, Mary was a graphic designer for 22 years, the last 12 as an independent contractor. In 2006, she served as a curriculum consultant and then acting director of the Design, Digital Arts, and Film Programs. She taught graphic design courses for the last three years for SCPS and Steinhardt. She also has been an adjunct professor of graphic design at Parsons, University of Pennsylvania, and the School of Visual Arts. She served on the New York Chapter board of directors of AIGA, the professional association for design. Before starting her own business, she was the assistant director of publications for Stevens Institute of Technology. Mary earned a Master's degree in Graphic Communications Management and Technology at NYU's Steinhardt School of Education. She earned her B.A. in Visual Arts with a minor in Economics from Rutgers University.

Center for Advanced Digital Applications

Myles Y. Tanaka, clinical assistant professor. Myles has 25 years experience as an art/creative director and educator. Prior to coming to NYU-SCPS, he taught at the School of Visual Arts’ Undergraduate Computer Art Department as an adjunct professor. As well, he was a visiting professor at Pratt Institute’s Graduate School of Design Management. Among his professional accomplishments, Myles was responsible for positioning MTV Networks on the technological cutting edge when he established there in 1992 the DTV Lab - an industry recognized group - to explore best practices for next generation technologies. He also established Organic Inc.’s New York Integrated Media Group, a department dedicated to delivering rich media content through a combination of video production and the interactive functionality of Flash, SMIL and JavaScript. A native of Hawaii, Myles earned a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Hawaii and an MPS in Design Management from Pratt Institute.

Development Office

Carmela Hache, director of development for SCPS (replaced Amy Cross). Prior to joining SCPS, Carmela held several positions at the United Ways of the Greater Tri-State Area: senior vice president for major gifts, senior vice president for donor services, account executive, and senior vice president of the Leaders-On-Loan program. Previously, Carmela worked at the American Express Company as director of corporate financial reporting, director of corporate real estate analysis, and manager of corporate financial standards and projects. Carmela received a B.S. in Accounting from Hunter College, an M.B.A. in Finance from Pace University, and a Diploma in Real Estate Analysis from the Real Estate Institute at SCPS. She is also a certified public accountant.

Enrollment Services

George Branin, promoted to associate director. George joined NYU in 1994, working first at Bobst Library, and then as acquisitions assistant and supervisor of technical services at the Law School Library. He transferred to the SCPS Registration Office in February 2000 as an administrative assistant, and was promoted to assistant director in August 2001. George has a B.A. in Business Administration and Hospitality from Middlesex College in Edison, New Jersey.

Anne-Marie Ficuciello, promoted to associate director. Anne-Marie began her career at SCPS in September 1996 in the Department of Finance, Law, and Taxation. She was promoted to program coordinator in June 1998 and later held the same position in the Center for Publishing. In January 2001, Anne-Marie moved to the Registration Office to accept the position of assistant director. She received her B.A. in Sociology from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and her M.L.S. from Queens College of the City University of New York.

Kenneth French, education advisor (replaced Carla Jessica Estrada). Kenneth began working for SCPS as a temporary education advisor this past August. Prior to working for NYU, he held a number of other temporary positions after relocating from Louisiana, with the United Nations International School, J & W Seligman and Co., and the International Shipholding Corporation. Before coming to New York, Kenneth worked for Wood Enterprises where he served as a member of the executive management team and Secretary/Treasurer to all five corporations. He earned a B.A. in Speech Education from Louisiana State University.

Lindsay Plewa, promoted to education advisor (replaced Tricia Schultz). Lindsey joined SCPS in April 2005 when she was hired as an administrative aide in the Office of Career, Education, and Life Planning. Her other NYU experience includes working with the newly created Office of Career Management and Professional Development, a part-time position with the NYU Office of University Events, and as a substitute faculty member. She received her B.A. in English Literature from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and is currently pursuing her M.A. in NYU's Draper Interdisciplinary Program.

Melina Taveras, information assistant (replaced Sharon Soto). Prior to joining SCPS, Melina worked for the Grand Hyatt as the front office agent, and at the NBA Store as a customer service specialist. She is currently studying Liberal Arts at the Borough of Manhattan Community College.

Facilities Administration, Woolworth

Carmen Bonilla, promoted to administrative secretary (replaced Tyshawn Staton). Carmen joined SCPS in November 2005 as a receptionist in Facilities Administration. Before coming to NYU, she worked as a security guard and a handler for Federal Express. She earned a certificate from the Career Resource Center for completing a customer service program.

Juan Questell, receptionist (replaced Carmen Bonilla). Before joining SCPS, Juan worked in security. Previously, he worked at the Food Bazaar in maintenance and stock. He also worked in maintenance at John F. Kennedy Airport. He earned his A.A. degree from Plaza College for Computer Business Support Specialist.

Alberto Rivera, assistant manager, facilities administration (replaced Ariel Nevarez). Prior to SCPS, Alberto worked for Deutsche Bank. He held several positions there, including administrative assistant, assistant floor manager, and finally, floor manager. He earned his A.A. in Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning from Technical Career Institute, and his B.A. in Computer Information Systems from Monroe College.

Tyshawn Staton, promoted to administrative aide (replaced Donald Poon). Tyshawn joined SCPS Facilities Administration in October 2002 as an administrative secretary. He transferred from the NYU Office of Campus Media where he had worked as a media operator assistant since 1996. Tyshawn is interested in fashion merchandising and is currently exploring programs that offer a degree in that field.

Conrad Turner, administrative secretary (replaced Andrew Wilson). Conrad began working for SCPS as a casual employee for Facilities Administration before being hired permanently. Prior to SCPS, he worked part-time for two years as a lab assistant for NYU's Office of Information Technology Services. Previously, he worked as an A/V technician and a course attendant for Rice University, and a PC technician for Grocers Supply Company in Houston. He earned his B.S. from the University of Houston College of Technology, majoring in Occupational Technology and Industrial Studies/Graphic Communications Technology with a minor in Computer Drafting. He also has an M.S. in Digital Imaging and Design from SCPS.

Facilities Administration, Midtown Center, Norman Thomas, and Manhattan Village Academy

Mark Hinds, promoted to receptionist. Mark has been a junior A/V assistant with SCPS Facilities Administration at Norman Thomas High School since February 1992.

Ray Jimenez, promoted to receptionist. Ray has been a junior A/V assistant with SCPS Facilities Administration at Norman Thomas High School since February 1992.

Emmanuel Opoku, promoted to Office Clerk/Messenger. Emmanuel came to SCPS as a messenger and a junior audio/visual assistant for Facilities Administration in August 2001. Prior to NYU, Emmanuel worked as a security guard.

Clifford Pierre, receptionist (replaced Judith Timg). Clifford began working for NYU in the summer of 2004 as a lab assistant. Other NYU positions held include office assistant and academic achievement program orientation leader. He received his B.A. from NYU's College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in Anthropology with a minor in Chemistry.

Judith Timg, promoted to administrative aide (replaced Donald Sing and Melissa Nowick). Judith joined SCPS in February 2006 as a part-time administrative secretary at the Manhattan Village Academy. In her new full-time position, she has responsibilities at both the Midtown Center and Manhattan Village Academy. Prior to SCPS, Judith worked at Leo Schachter company, and Video Portfolio Productions as an administrative assistant. She received a Certificate of Audio Engineering and Production from the Institute of Audio Research and is currently majoring in small business entrepreneurship at CUNY.

Global Affairs

Michelle D'Amico, promoted to administrative aide (replaced Judy Franklin). Michelle began working for SCPS in September 1999 as a senior PC support technician. Previously, she worked as a development assistant/bookkeeper for Greenwich House. She received her B.S. in Advertising and Marketing Communications from the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Rick Gove, promoted to director, administration and external relations. Rick joined SCPS in February 2002 as the assistant director for public events at the Lillian Vernon Center for International Affairs. He was promoted to associate director in September 2003. Prior to SCPS, Rick worked at the University of Michigan; directed the ceremonies program for AIDS Rides and Avon Breast Cancer; and managed Peace Corps recruitment in San Francisco. He also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mongolia. Rick received his B.A. in English and secondary education from Valparaiso University in Indiana and is currently pursuing an M.B.A. at NYU's Stern School of Business.

MyKellann Ledden, associate director, Graduate Programs (replaced Sara Schivell). MyKellann began working at the Center for Global Affairs in January 2006. Prior to SCPS, MyKellann served as the public programs coordinator for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Culture, and Design at Bard Graduate Center. She held similar positions in program and event coordination at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, Newseum/NY, and Freedom Forum. MyKellann received a B.A. from Ithaca College and an M.S. in Education from Bank Street College Graduate School of Education.

Richard Steeves, associate director, Non-Degree Programs and Public Events (replaced Rick Gove). Prior to SCPS, Richard held the position of assistant to the dean for strategic planning at Hunter College of the City University of New York. He also was an admissions counselor for the CUNY Graduate Center, and a Graduate Teaching Fellow for Hunter College. Richard received his B.A. in English and Philosophy from the University of Rhode Island, and is currently completing a Ph.D. in English from the Graduate Center.

Graduate Programs in Business

Kylee Hartman, administrative aide. Kylee recently transferred from the SCPS Office of Budget and Accounting to the Graduate Programs in Business. She came to SCPS in June 2006 as a budget assistant. Prior to NYU, she worked for Thomas Publishing in New York, where she was an information systems intern/help desk assistant. She received her B.A. in Philosophy from Read College.

Graduate Program in Graphic Communications Management and Technology

Bonnie Blake, program director. Bonnie and the graduate program transferred to SCPS from Steinhardt School of Education this past fall. Bonnie served as the acting program director and prior to that, the associate program director for the graduate program at Steinhardt. Also, she has been teaching in the program for almost 20 years. Bonnie founded and served as president of her own company, Bonnie Blake & Company, providing advertising and promotion services to an extensive list of clients. Prior experience includes acting as director of Creative Services-Print for Showtime/The Movie Channel, Inc., advertising and promotion manager for Warner Amex Satellite Entertainment Company, special account group coordinator for DEKG Advertising: Simon & Schuster, Ideal Toy, and assistant to the director of corporate participation for the United States Olympic Committee from 1976–78. Bonnie received a B.A. from Boston College and an M.A. in Graphic Communications Management and Technology from NYU's Steinhardt School of Education. She also earned a Certificate in Advertising and Promotion from SCPS.

Information and Technology

Mikhail Bayder, systems administrator (replaced Michael Caruso). Prior to SCPS, Mikhail worked at Credit Suisse as an environment manager, and at NYU's Steinhardt School of Education as a consulting systems administrator. He earned his B.A. in Computer Science from Hunter College, and is currently pursuing an M.A. from Steinhardt.

Michaele Brown, application programmer/analyst. Michaele transferred from the position of executive assistant in the Office of the Associate Dean for Administration. Prior to coming to NYU, Michaele worked as a project manager, applications system designer, and instructional designer for JPMorgan Chase and Peat, Marwick & Mitchell. Most recently, she was an adjunct instructor at NYU's Steinhardt School of Education, where she also is pursuing her Ph.D. in Educational Communications and Technology. Michaele has a B.S. in Management Science from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.B.A in Information Systems Management from Rutgers.

Robert Estevez, media services technician (replaced Peter Fedak). Prior to SCPS, Robert worked as a graphics production specialist for Bank of New York. In 2005, he worked as a lab assistant at NYU. He received his B.S. in Electronic Media, Arts and Communication from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Christina Leung, promoted to reporting analyst. Christina started working for the SCPS Office of Information and Technology in February 2003 as an administrative aide. Previous work experience included an assistant to the vice president of technical services at Tommy Hilfiger U.S.A., Inc. She also worked as an account representative for networking at SBC Communications, and as a unit coordinator for Finance and Administration at CBS Corporation. Christina received her B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management from the SCPS Tisch Center and has taken many SCPS courses to increase her technical knowledge.

McGhee Division

Carol Monda, administrative aide. Carol has worked in the McGhee Division as an adjunct writing tutor since January 2000 and as a faculty liaison with the Midtown Center since September 2002. Carol also worked as a writing tutor for Borough of Manhattan Community College; a drama teacher for Belvoir Terrace, a school in Lenox, MA; and a high school drama instructor at the Professional Performing Arts School in Manhattan. In addition, she is an acting and voice instructor/coach, assistant drama therapist, and a professional actress/voice-over artist. Carol earned her B.F.A. in Drama from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

Philanthropy and Fundraising

Mayelly Moreno, promoted to program administrator. Mayelly joined SCPS as an administrative aide in March 2001 for the Center for Philanthropy. Prior to SCPS, she worked as an application services assistant in the Enrollment Services Office of NYU's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Mayelly earned her B.A. in Psychology and Hispanic Languages and Literature from State University of New York at Stony Brook, and an M.A. in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from NYU's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Real Estate Institute

Millicent Powell, administrative aide. Millie returned to the position of administrative aide in the Real Estate Non-Degree Program in November 2006 after working for almost two years with all of the Non-Degree strategy directors. Millie started with the Real Estate Institute as an administrative secretary in March 1985.

Strategic Marketing and Communications

Alice Finer, promoted to associate director of publications. Alice joined the SCPS Publications Group in October 2003 as a publications production manager, responsible for producing the SCPS Bulletin. Prior to SCPS, Alice was a senior editor/writer and project manager for The New York Times Guides and Reference Books. She also taught writing online at the University of Phoenix. Alice holds a B.A. in Classics and English Literature from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and an M.S. in Journalism from NYU's Graduate School of Arts and Science.

Amaloha Garcia, promoted to assistant manager, Direct Marketing (replaced Andreea Matei). Amaloha began her career at SCPS as a student employee in February 2000. She was hired full-time in May 2003 as a direct marketing assistant. While continuing in this position, she also assumed the work of Marketing Analyst temporarily in 2005. She received her B.S. in International Business and Marketing with a minor in History from NYU's Stern School of Business. She also has a Certificate in Entertainment, Media, and Technology from Stern.

James O'Brien, writer (replaced Trisch Arbib). James also worked as a freelance copywriter for Bookspan (formerly Book of the Month Club), Washington Square Press, and SCPS Publications. He also worked as a senior copywriter for Bookspan, and as an editorial researcher for O'Sullivan Publishing Company. Prior to his work in publishing, he taught English composition and Irish literature at Montclair State University in New Jersey. James received a B.A. in English from William Paterson College in Wayne, New Jersey, and an M.A. in English Literature from Montclair State University.

Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management

Brian Carroll, administrative aide (replaced Margo Jones). Prior to SCPS, Brian worked as a high school English teacher and an English Instructor in Rome, Italy. He received a B.A. in International Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and professional certification in English Language Teaching from University of Cambridge.

Undergraduate Student Life, Alumni Relations, and Events

Krystyna Davenport, associate director, Alumni Relations (replaced Grace Greenwich). Prior to SCPS, Krystyna was Campaign Coordinator for Special Events and Donor Relations at New York Presbyterian Hospital. She also worked as a special events coordinator for Teachers College at Columbia University. She received a B.A. in English from Fordham University, and is currently pursuing an M.P.A. at CUNY's Baruch College.

Graduate Program in Publishing

Alyssa Leal, associate director (replaced Heidi Johnson). Alyssa transferred to the SCPS Graduate Program in Publishing from the English Department of the Graduate School of Arts and Science at NYU where she was the graduate program administrator. Alyssa started working at NYU in 1997 and held several clerical positions, including graduate program aide, before her promotion to graduate program administrator in 2002. She has a B.A. in Latin American Studies from NYU's College of Arts and Science, and an M.A. in Higher Education/Student Personnel Administration from the Steinhardt School of Education.

Career Management and Professional Development

Emily Westerman, senior career counselor. Prior to SCPS, Emily worked as assistant director in the Office of Career Services at Yeshiva University in New York. Since March 2002, she has had adjunct appointments as instructor and career counselor for the SCPS Center for Career, Education, and Life Planning. Emily earned her B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Albright College, and her M.A. in Counselor Education from Fairfield University. She also has an SCPS Certificate in Adult Career Planning and Development.
