Sustainable development requires an ability to see past the short-term and to consider the impacts of real estate activities from a broader perspective.
The Center for the Sustainable Built Environment (SBE) engages the real estate, design, and construction communities, and offers the tools and training to effectively implement sustainable practices through education platforms that include:
The NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate helps realize SBE's mission to expand sustainable practices in the real estate and construction industries through its programs and curricula, including:
A wide range of professional courses are available through the non-credit offerings of the NYU Schack Institute, including the Professional Certificate in Sustainable Design, Construction, and Development
A range of internship opportunities is available for students to conduct applied research and/or gain practical, hands-on professional experience. A mentorship program is also available in which students are matched with an industry leader in a semester-long opportunity that allows them to learn from active practitioners in the sustainable real estate field.
A variety of workshops and seminars are offered each semester through the noncredit offerings of the NYU Schack Institute, including the Professional Certificate in Sustainable Design, Construction, and Development.
The Sustainable Developer’s Toolkit practitioner series provides practical guidance and knowledge transfer on topics of timely significance. Examples include a discussion of prefabricated construction techniques and a panel on the process of brownfield redevelopment.
