Graduate Admissions

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

To ensure a smooth application process we suggest that you read through all the information about the admissions process before you compile your materials.

ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE
The Admissions Committee reviews applications on a rolling basis throughout the year. The application process is self managed, which means that all required elements of the application are gathered by the applicant and sent to New York University. Only standardized test score results are sent under separate cover by the testing agency. Only complete applications will be reviewed for admission. You should make and retain copies of all application materials.

If you apply during the fall or spring of the current academic year, the Admissions Committee will review your application within two weeks of receipt of a complete application. If you apply at or around the priority deadline, it may take as long as six weeks for your application to be reviewed. The SCPS Office of Admissions does not issue decisions over the telephone. We will notify you by mail about your admission status.

Official transcripts and letters of recommendation should be sent to you by registrars and evaluators. If a college or university will not release official transcripts to you, then please have the documents(s) sent directly to New York University, Office of Admissions, 145 Fourth Avenue, room 219, New York, NY 10003.

After you have collected all the application components, we strongly suggest that you fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applicants who wish to be considered for a Merit Scholarship or the Dean’s Fellowship must fill out the FAFSA.

GRADUATE RECORD EXAM (GRE)
When arranging to take the GRE, please choose the general test, which includes verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing. Results of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) are sent to us under separate cover by Educational Testing Service (ETS). The applicant must make arrangements for ETS to send us the scores by requesting that the results are sent to code 2557, which is the school code for the School of Continuing and Professional Studies. You may contact ETS at www.ets.org.

GRADUATE MANAGEMENT ADMISSIONS TEST (GMAT)

The GMAT is a standardized assessment delivered in English, that helps business schools assess qualifications for advanced study in business and management. For contact and testing center information please go to www.mba.com.

If you are interested in taking a test preparation course, you may review available courses offered by the SCPS Office of Career Management.

When you have gathered all information and supporting documents, including transcripts in sealed envelopes, resume, recommendations in sealed envelopes, personal statement, and graduate test scores, send the materials to the SCPS Office of Admissions, including a nonrefundable application fee of $75 in the form of a check or money order made payable to New York University. Applications submitted without fees will not be processed.

In order to attend school in the semester of your choice, it is important to create a financial plan. We recommend that you fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at the same time that you apply to a graduate program. Applicants who wish to be considered for a Merit Scholarship or the Dean’s Fellowship must fill out the FAFSA.
