Invitation Eligibility: Invitations are extended to all graduates and candidates for degrees and certificates for the 2008-09 academic year -- specifically for September 2008, January 2009 and May 2009.  Invitations with instructions will be mailed in late March.  

Guest Tickets: Participating students may request tickets between Monday, March 16 and Saturday, April 25.  Call Torch Tone at 212-995-4747.  Since there is no rehearsal, detailed instructions regarding participation in the ceremony are included with the student’s ticket.

Diplomas: Diplomas are mailed to the graduates' permanent addresses by the Office of the University Registrar approximately eight weeks following the date of graduation.  Check your permanent address on Albert.  For further information regarding diplomas, contact the Office of the University Registrar.

Academic Attire: Graduates and degree candidates who wish to participate are required to wear academic attire.

Late Orders: If you miss the April 7th deadline, you must place and pick up a late order any time after Tuesday, May 5, during regular distribution hours. Go to the Barrie Dance Studio, on the first floor of Coles, beginning Wednesday, May 6, when a representative of Herff Jones, Inc. will be available to take and fill your late order in one transaction. All late orders must be paid by certified check, money order, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover) or cash. The latter will speed up your transaction. Please understand that the rental firm might have to make substitutions to fill late orders.

Undergraduate Students Academic Attire Distribution:
Academic attire for Undergraduates must be received on-line by Monday, April 13, 2009.Degree candidates can pick up their academic attire from Herff Jones, Inc. at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center, 181 Mercer Street between Bleecker and Houston Streets at the following times:

  • Tuesday, May 5 – 11:00 am - 6:00 pm (On-time orders only)
  • Wednesday, May 6 – 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
  • Thursday, May 7 – 11:00 am - 7:00 pm
  • Friday, May 8 – 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Monday, May 11 – 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Be prepared to show valid photo I.D. to claim your rented attire.  

Graduate Students Academic Attire Distribution: Academic attire for Graduate must be received on-line by Tuesday, April 7, 2009.  Degree candidates can pick up their academic attire from the Midtown Center, 11 West 42nd Street, 4th Floor.  Be prepared to show valid photo I.D. to claim your rented attire.

  • Monday, May 4 – 3:00 pm - 6:15 pm
  • Tuesday, May 5 – 3:00 pm - 6:15 pm
  • Wednesday, May 6 – 3:00 pm - 6:15 pm
  • Thursday, May 7 – 3:00 pm - 6:15 pm
  • Friday, May 8 – 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Since the rented attire has been folded and placed in a bag for distribution, it is recommended that you pick it up in time to have it pressed before the ceremony.

Return Academic Attire:  If you are only attending the Convocation at the Grand Hyatt you will be able to drop off academic attire on the Conference Level of the hotel.  For those planning to attend both Convocation and Commencement, you will need to return your academic attire after Commencement at Yankee Stadium.

Third Party Academic Attire Pick up: If the degree candidate lives out of state or cannot pick up academic attire at the times indicated, a third party may pick up the academic attire providing the following documentation is presented:

  • Photocopy of student’s ID
  • Photo ID of self
  • Signed letter from the degree candidate authorizing pick-up
  • A copy of the online order print-out
