SCPS CONVOCATIONS

The deadline to request tickets was April 18th. If you have missed the April 18th deadline for ordering online, please email: scps.graduationevents@nyu.edu to request tickets.

Please note: tickets are not guaranteed. Please email your full name, which program you are graduating from, and your school id number and the number of tickets you would like.

In addition to the University’s Commencement Ceremony, the School of Continuing and Professional Studies hosts a separate event for its Graduate students and their guests. This year, our ceremony will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel at Grand Central Station. Join your fellow graduates with your family and friends as we celebrate your achievements. Please read the information below and look for additional information in your invitations.

10:30 am Guest seating in the Auditorium on the Ballroom level. Lineup for students begins on the conference level.
11:30 am Academic Procession and Formal Program
1:30-3:00 pm Reception --- Conference Level

ELIGIBILITY
Invitations are mailed to: graduates and candidates for graduation for the 2007-2008 academic year—specifically, September 2007 and January 2008 graduates, and May 2008 candidates. 

INVITATIONS
The SCPS Office of Events will mail invitations for this event in mid March. If you have not received your Convocation invitation, please contact the office at (212) 992-9100 to verify graduation status and mailing address.

TICKETS
Ticket Request

Graduates do not require tickets to attend this event. Tickets are required for your guests. Degree candidates are eligible to receive 4 guest tickets. Children under the age of 2 do not require a ticket.

Ticket Pickup
Tickets will be available for pickup at the following location and times:

11 West 42nd Street, 4th Floor
Monday, May 5–Thursday, May 8
2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

You must show your NYU I.D. to claim your tickets. Please note that tickets are not transferable.

International Visa Requests
Students MUST order All-University Commencement tickets via Torchtone in order to request a visa letter for guests wishing to attend the All-University Commencement. Please fill out a student visa request form from the Student Services at 25 West Fourth Street. Student Services will send the form to Jimmy Doussi in the University Registrar's Office.

ACADEMIC ATTIRE:
Participating students are required to wear academic attire for this event. 

  • If you have missed the April 8th deadline for ordering online, you must place a late order.
    Beginning Wednesday, May 7th, a representative of Herff Jones, Inc. will be available to take your late order at the Coles Sports Center.
    All late orders must be paid by certified check, money order, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover) or cash.

  • Students need to order and pick up their own attire.

NOTE:  Those planning to attend the SCPS Convocation, should order academic attire. Those attending both Convocation and Commencement events will be able to keep their gown to use for both events.

Return Academic Attire: If you are only attending the Convocation at the Grand Hyatt you will be able to drop off academic attire on the Conference level of the hotel.  For those planning to attend both Convocation and Commencement, you will need to return your academic attire after Commencement at the Coles Sports Center.

SCHEDULE
Please note that seating will begin at 10:30 a.m. for graduate student’s guests. We will not be able to accommodate any guests arriving earlier.  Guests planning to arrive early should wait in the hotel lobby. 

CEREMONY
The ceremony will begin with an address from the Dean and a student speaker, to be followed by the distribution of student awards (for information on awards, see your academic department). During the presentation of graduates and candidates for graduation, each student will be called to march across the stage and be recognized. 

PHOTOGRAPHS
Graduates will be able to purchase pictures taken at the ceremony. In addition, arrangements have been made for graduates and their families to take graduation portraits after the ceremony, on stage. Details will be included in the invitation.
 
AWARDS/DEGREES
Diplomas are not handed out at the Graduation Ceremony or Commencement, but are mailed approximately eight weeks after Commencement.
