The following information will help you get started quickly and easily as a new student at SCPS.
ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT
Before you register for courses, you must meet with an academic advisor to plan your course
of study and select the courses you will take in the next semester. Together, you will choose
courses that meet the requirements of your program that you are qualified to take. Your advisor
will provide you with a signed copy of your registration form listing the courses you will take and
an access code for registration. In general, your academic advisor should be consulted whenever you
have questions about or are experiencing difficulties with your academic program. Any changes in
the courses you select must also be approved by the academic advisor, including courses you wish to
drop or add during the term. Meetings with a departmental advisor can be scheduled through your
program office. Student Number
Your student number or University ID (starting with an N, and followed by 9 digits) is mailed to you in your admissions packet and is also printed on your NYU ID card. Write this number down or memorize it as you will be asked for it throughout your academic career.
NYU NET ID
All students enrolled in degree or diploma programs, are provided with an NYU NetID (Network
IDentification). Your NetID is a combination of your initials and a few random numbers, e.g.,
aqe123, and is usually printed on the back of your NYUCard. It is different from your University
ID, which is also printed on your NYUCard, but is a longer string of numbers and starts with an
"N". Once activated (see below), your NetID is your key to many NYU online resources, including,
NYUHome. Your NetID is also used to create your default NYU email address (e.g., aqe123@nyu.edu).
Activating Your NYU NetID
You can activate your NetID at any time, from any Internet-connected computer, using the ITS Start page. If you know your NetID (it is usually printed on the back of your NYU ID Card), enter it in the appropriate field and click "Start!"; if not, follow the instructions at the top of the page. Then, complete the steps for setting up a password (visit the Security pages for password tips) and beginning your NYUHome service. If you encounter any problems, contact the ITS Client Services Center.
NYU CARD
An NYU ID Card is a must for all NYU students and should be carried at all times while on
campus. The card entitles you to various privileges and potential uses on campus. Your NYUCard
provides you with access to selected NYU buildings, campus transportation, and computer centers
located throughout campus.
Students must have an NYUCard in order to request services at the Student Services Center and to gain entry to the residence halls, the libraries, Coles and Palladium Sports Center, and other University buildings. Do not lend this card to anyone at any time for any reason. You can be subject to disciplinary proceedings if you are involved in fraudulent use of an NYUCard. If you should terminate your stay at NYU, please return your card to the NYUCard Center.
Your eligibility will be verified in the Registrar system when you obtain your NYUCard. The Registrar has the final authorization as to whether a card is to be issued. To verify eligibility, please contact the Card Center at (212) 443-CARD. Once verified, you may go to the Card Center, located at 7 East 12th Street, ground level. You must bring proof of identification (i.e. State Driver’s License, State Photo ID, or Passport).
Information Printed on Your NYUCard
The month/year date on the right side of your card represents the expiration date of the
card. The date is good through the end of the month in the year indicated.
If the date on the card has expired or is about to expire, you should return your card to the NYUCard Center. If you have discarded your expired ID card and are seeking a replacement card, you will be charged a $15 replacement fee (accept cash or campus cash only).
Electronic access privileges are assigned on a semester basis and are based on several factors; therefore your card may not work even if the card date is valid. Please check with the NYUCard Center for a status update.
In addition to the important telephone numbers on the back of your card, your University ID and NetID are located above the barcode.
