Undergraduate Admissions
CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING
The McGhee Division offers bachelor’s degrees, which are 128-130 credits and associate’s
degrees, which are 60-62 credits. A student may complete up to 50 percent of their degree by
transferring in credits earned at another institution. This means you may transfer up to 64 credits
towards a bachelor’s degree and 32 towards an associates Degree.
TRANSFERRING CREDITS
In order for credits to be transferred to New York University, all courses will be reviewed
to determine if they are equivalent to NYU’s curriculum, and you must have received a “C” or better
in the course. Please keep in mind that when transferring courses they must fit into the degree
plan that you are pursuing at New York University.
There are two other ways that you may earn credit towards your degree, up to the 50 percent
maximum credits allowed. You may take CLEP tests, or consider using our experiential learning
option to earn credits after you are admitted to the university.
CLEP TESTS
NYU accepts certain tests and requires specific advanced placement test scores. We suggest
that you do not schedule any placement tests until you are offered admission and meet with an
academic advisor.
LIFE EXPERIENCE CREDITS
Experiential Learning is an opportunity to use your life experience to earn credits toward
your degree. After you are admitted and all of your transfer credits have been finalized, you
should talk with your academic advisor about this option. To gain credit toward your degree, you
will be required to take a two credit seminar course where you learn how to create a portfolio. To
receive credit for a course, you will then prepare a portfolio demonstrating that you have the
knowledge required to receive credit.
