CAREER DEVELOPMENT/MANAGEMENT SERVICES

As an NYU-SCPS student, in addition to the career resources offered through your academic program, you will enjoy the benefit of career development/management services provided by the School and the University at large. NYU-SCPS and the University's Wasserman Center for Career Development work in partnership with the School’s academic program areas to provide supplemental services and programs specifically for NYU-SCPS students. A broad range of events, programs and customized services including personalized career assistance, job transition guidance, industry-specific information, and specialized resources are available to enhance your overall learning experience.

The Wasserman Center for Career Development helps all NYU students to take advantage of the University’s New York City location and the internship and professional opportunities it affords. The Center posts job listings, connects students with alumni and mentors, coaches students on the most effective interviewing skills, and provides career advice. Do you know what your next step is? Starting the career development process early in your academic career facilitates applying to graduate school and pursuing employment opportunities.

Here are some guidelines and tips to help you along the way:

Your résumé:   Make sure it is always up-to-date, with your projected date of graduation and area of study.
Your resources:   Help is available from McGhee advisors and faculty, the NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development, and more. Use them!
Your contacts:   Network with at least three people who work in a field of interest to you.
Your skills:   Research the requirements of the job or career you want or of the graduate school you wish to attend.
Your professors:   Get to know faculty members so they can recommend you when the time comes.
Your experience:   Take action that helps you gain information and/or experience, such as meeting with a professor, shadowing a professional, or seeking out internships.
Your options:   Use the program resources to research what paths you want follow after graduation, whether employment or more education.
Your deadlines:   Know your deadlines for taking graduate entrance exams and applying to graduate school.
