McGhee graduates attest to the excellence of both their educational experience and the varied and rigorous programs that accommodated their wide-ranging interests. Many have gone on to advance in their current careers; others have moved to new areas in which they excel. In this fast-changing world where technology renders yesterday’s discoveries obsolete, our graduates have the skills to absorb new developments in their fields and react positively to them. McGhee students leave with the confidence to face every new situation with the sure sense that they can succeed.
McGhee offers unique ways for you to progress quickly and successfully, whether you are beginning a new degree or completing a degree started at another college—even if it was years ago. With the choice of associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in a wide range of subjects and career directions, you have all the resources to achieve your educational and career development goals.
Depending on your previous college and life experience and your current interests, you may begin a bachelor’s degree right away or begin working toward an associate’s degree with the option to switch to a bachelor’s degree as your studies evolve. It is also possible to change your program as you develop new interests and insights.
CHOOSING YOUR MAJOR WHEN YOU'RE UNDECIDED
The McGhee Division’s academic advising program supports new students who have had no previous college experience or who have fewer than 15 transferable credits. If you are considering more than one possible direction for your studies, you can begin your degree planning with an undeclared major. You take the same courses in liberal arts and professional studies as all other McGhee students, as you work with your advisor to form an educational plan that suits your academic, personal, and career goals. Your advisor will help you choose courses from the McGhee Core Curriculum and required courses from degree programs that interest you. Also, you may choose electives, such as a course in career planning to help you make informed decisions about your area of study. After you earn 20–30 credits at McGhee and are ready to declare a major, all of your accumulated credits are transferred to the program you select. Students may select any of the McGhee Associate in Arts, Associate in Applied Science, Bachelor of Arts, or Bachelor of Science degree programs, or apply to other baccalaureate programs at NYU.
